![]() Hello ,
Here some info on S/L Reid : 28/10/1944 Maldegem Belgium Spitfire IX B MK-453 91Sqn DL- Biggin Hill S/L Reid Georges St Clair Boyd ( KIA ) 41465 RAF 1918 In the Bogaerdstraat ( Bogaerdstreet ) in Maldegem province East Flanders Belgium an airplane crashed during the war. Boudewijn De Schepper, Frank Raeman and Fernad Elias decided to solve the mistery in 1996.Searching with a metal detector told them that there was an aircraft .The day after they started their research and very soon pieces of he aircraft were found , but also … the body of the pilot , his boots still on the rudderpedals. Also his wristwatch , cigarette lighter were found. At a dept of 4 meters the engine was found. Who was the pilot , looking at the uniform peices found it was a squadron leader .Four months later the identity of the squadron was found . It was the 27 years old Canadian pilot George St Clair Boyd Reid, who flew already in the RAF before the war. After the war at Slijpe on the belgian coast a pilot was buried under the name off Squadron Leader Reid. Fifty years later the remains of S/L Reid were found and the man buried at Slijpe will stay unknown. In 1996 S/L Reid was laid to rest at the Canadian War Cemetery at Adegem. Greetings Alain57 |

Re: S/L. George St. Clair Boyd Reid RAF
Hello Santiago,
Just a little information, taken from the AIR 81/2744 Personnel Casualty File for the 608 Squadron accident on 24 August 1940. He was born on 14 December 1917 in Nelson, British Columbia, Canada. At that time he was not married and his next-of-kin was given as an aunt in England. Nothing else really because it is a small file due to two of the crew being only slightly injured. Regards, Martin Gleeson. |
