Re: Stinson C-91?
I would think that seeing a civilian aircraft and military vehicles in the same photo at an airport in Alaska during the war (or at the beginning of the war) would not be that uncommon.
Notice the antennae or cable cutter in front of the windscreen. https://www.reddit.com/r/WeirdWings/...the_kuskokwim/ http://www.airminded.net/stin3m/ao_stinson_mirow.jpg https://jukebox.uaf.edu/site7/media-...ail/2561/14211 |

Re: Stinson C-91?
Hi,
The text on the second photo is interesting 'Chartered by the Reindeer Acquisition Unit'. Is that a military unit, perhaps? If so,there may be a military connection after all. Alternatively, its not long until Christmas,so doubtless there is a bad joke of some sort to be cracked... Regards, Clint |

Re: Stinson C-91?
Clint,
To wrap up the Stinson story: the RAU was part of a scheme to purchase all non-native-owned reindeer in Alaska. Reference and as a bonus also a pic of a Stinson here: https://chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/l...17/ed-1/seq-4/ (clipping can be enlarged). Regards, Leendert |
