Canne (the airfield) was NOT at Canne della Battaglia in Apulia, the location of Hannibal's victory in 216BC. The airfield referred to by the Allies as Canne was a mile or so SSE of Campomarino (Province of Campobasso). To be more precise it was located where the village of Cianaluca now stands. If you look at satellite imagery of Cianaluca, you'll note that it has an unusually straight and wide main street, the location of the old PSP runway at Canne. HTH Niall
