Sorry to say I have only very basic information regarding the US SE.5a

It seems the problem was that the US should provide the engines for those aircraft ordered.

Reading between the lines I think the US took on a bit more than they actually could chow, and the engine
supply was delayed. If exactly C9083 was a victim of that problem is something I cannot see, but
not impossible. Most of these aircraft thus ended up in storage.

Whatever the case, there is no reported British activity with this aircraft and loads of others whose records
only says 'shipped to USA'.
