JG2 and JG26 operations 19th August 1942

Does anybody know if documents survive recording the operations of JG2 and JG26 during the Dieppe raid.

I've got their losses and claims and rough numbers from the loss and claims lists and unit books.

JG2- 400+ sorties
JG26- 36 missions (comprising 377 sorties)

I can't find anything relevant using the Bundesarchive search tool looking for Jafu 2, Jafu 3, JG2 or JG26, but I wonder if there exists any detailed records of the days operations and somebody could suggest where to look.

Regards,

Steve

You might get some clues from National Archives AIR 22/495" Air Ministry W/T Intelligence Service Daily Summaries: nos. 1000-1122 (1048 missing) Vol.20 (June–September 1942).

I'm sure they were recording German radio talk on the day of the Dieppe raid.

Hi Nick,

Thanks, yeah I've had a look at that document. It has a few bits on the bomber/reconnaissance units, but unfortunately not much on the fighter activities.

Thanks. I've gone through Donald Caldwell's JG26 book and got some details, but I haven't been able to find a similar book for JG2.

Thanks for that gents,

I'll try and get a copy of the book by Erik Mombeek. Looks like it'll be the most detailed.

Hi Steve,

I did an article about Jagdgeschwader 2 during the Dieppe raid, which was published in English by The Aviation Historian in Issue 35.

Cheers,
Andrew A.
