Hi Alex,
I guess I just grew up on too many Military bases. Artillery shells are used as decoration all over the place especially around Flag poles where the fuses used to be are replaced by eyebolts with chains run thru them, Markers around monuments etc... Yes I have also seen large caliber shells (not shell casings) with flowers growing where the fuse would be. I also suspect the picture you posted is an 8 inch Parrot rifle round from the Civil war era. Plenty of pictures of those from Fort Sumpter. Cheers |
