Re: Oblt Hartmann Grasser of II./JG 51, 24 January 1942
Hi Jim,
???? two scenarii or two different accidents? If you're talking about two scenarii the same day I'm right to say he didn't bail out when looking the picture you posted. Two different accidents ... well. Best regards, Franck. |

Franck - go back and look at Laurent's initial post to start this thread. He presents the two different possibilities.

Re: Oblt Hartmann Grasser of II./JG 51, 24 January 1942
Yes Jim, I agree with you; two different possibilities for ONE accident occured to one pilot on that day.But what I read, too, is that the two possibilities correspond with two different accidents, NO? Regards, Franck. |

Re: Oblt Hartmann Grasser of II./JG 51, 24 January 1942
Entirely possible and quite likely. We all know that the Gen.Qu. reports are full of errors - including duplicates of the same loss with differing details. I presented the information from a photographed loss of a machine that may correspond to Laurent's details. I make no claim that one equals the other, other than as a point of discussion.

Re: Oblt Hartmann Grasser of II./JG 51, 24 January 1942
Hi guys,
What an old shot! We have one answer with that recent eBay auction: https://www.ebay.com/itm/37457077748...-nYlAKYVd_bZ8w 9704 is clearly visible on this pic together with broken "Schwarze 2" illustrated in JFV 9.I page 76. Place is Soltsy ! Waraponowa is correctly spelled for 9204 loss as Varapanovo (aka Warapanowo for german reader) which is situated around 150km east of Soltsy. So: Between the earlier image and this one "Gelbe 3" is exactly in the same state. If down at Varapanovo I cannot imagine the machine being transported without being dismantled. So 9704 for Grasser is certainely wrong. Concerning 9204. Why not? but II./JG51 was supposed to be based at Brjansk during this period and Brjansk is situated 750Km south of Varapanovo. Regards, Franck. |
