Hi Chris,
The relevant document is available online in Bundesarchiv file RL 2-III/58 p.0053. Dated 6.2.1944: "Betr.: Umbennung von Kampfverbanden. 1.) Mit sofortiger Wirkung werden umbenannt: II./K.G. 51 in III./Kampfgeschwader 3 V./K.G. 2 in II./Kampfgeschwader 51 ...". Best regards, Jim
