Umrüstungskommando Ju 188
Can anyone supply additional information regarding this unit?
Umrüstungskommando Ju 188 Established 1 April 1944 at Gutenfeld airfield in East Prussia for a duration of 6 months. (Source - L.P. Nr. 1236/44 g.Kdos.) Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Umrüstungskommando Ju 188
Andy
Just an oddity to report. The loss of Ju 188 W.Nr. 280011 on 31/1/44 at Gutenfeld is reported on an NVM submitted by LuEkdo 24. The pilot Oblt. Carl Schmidt (DOB 14/12/09) who was killed in the crash was listed on the NVM as being the Leiter of Umrüstungskommando Ju 188. This information was passed to Larry and Doug and appears in the current version of the Luftwaffe Officer Database. This tend to indicate that the unit was in the initial stages of working up but beyond that I am unable to speculate. Steve |
