Re: PLOIESTI 06/10/44
This doenst really clarify my problem.
J' have the list of the 28 vic.attributed in Romania + 1 (Varnell...J don't know where?)...but J don't know the types (bf.109..fw.190..Do-217???) assigned at each pilots. Michel |

Re: PLOIESTI 06/10/44
Cannot add anything on the victories, but your Varnell comment is possibly off. According to Frank Olynyk's Stars & Bars, Varnell made no claim on June 10, although he did claim on June 9 and June 11. If any member has a copy of Olynyk's MTO claims book, it would solve your mystery. Unfortunately I do not have it, only his ETO claims book.

Quote:
US pilots has a lot troubles to identify Romanian aircraft, so had least two were honest enough to admit they don't know what they shot at. Most Fw 190 claimed over Romania were actually IAR fighters. On this day, I wonder what were the "CR 42" claimed by several pilots ? |

Re: PLOIESTI 06/10/44
Hi Laurent
CR-42 were IAR-38/IAR-39 (3) Do-217 were Bf.110 (3 germans+3 romanians) Fw.58 (romanians x 3) confused with what?? with Do-217??..surprising anyway! IAR-27 (1) confused with single engined fighter?...by Merrill Adelson? Ju-88 (2/NJG 100) claimed by who?...confused with what? Regards Michel |
