Re: Fw190 attack 1 May 1943 - Norway

On 1 May Fw190s of an unknown unit attacked a number of RAF Beaufighters off the SW Norwegian coast.

Can anyone give me the Luftwaffe unit and further info on the engagement?

Thanks

Danny

JG5 claimed 12 Beaufighters. Any ideas as to actual losses?

Our friend Geoffrey Sinclair wishes to add the following:

Weekly report, Coastal Command units based in Britain 1 May 1943 report
40 Beaufighter escorting 18 torpedo Beaufighter sorties, looking for a
naval force off Norway, no attack made, 7 aircraft missing and 2 damaged
from all operations on the day, another 2 aircraft missing on 29 April,
for the week 8 Beaufighter and 1 anti submarine aircraft missing.

Either 6 or 7 Beaufighter missing on 1 May.
