Rescued StG2 crew on 26th of May 1940.
Hi,
On the 26th of May 1940 Friedrich Platzer (later KC winner) of III./StG2 rescued a downed crew in Calais. 1) Is the crew that got rescued known? 2) What was the cause of them landing/crashing their Ju87? 3) Was this the first time a Ju87 crew was rescued by another Ju87 during the war? I read that Platzer was known for his rescues of down crews. Regards, Thomas

The only StG 2 crew shot down that day was 7./StG 2 shot down by Flak near Estaires, Uffz Bernrieder and Uffz Werner unhurt

Re: Rescued StG2 crew on 26th of May 1940.
Hi Chris,
Thank you for your reply. That is also the crew I know of, but no mentioning of them being rescued. According to the book “Das waren die deutschen Stuka-Asse 1939-1945” by Georg Brütting, it was Lothar Lau he got out after an emergency landing (page 241). Lau made a crash landing on the 11th of May 1940, but wasn’t rescued by another crew that day. Maybe the 26th is wrong or Lothar Lau is not the one that got rescued by Platzer. Lau did have more than one crash/emergency landing, his last being on the 22th of January 1945, couldn’t find another.

I have Schimmelpfennig with I./186 which is supported by him being killed with 7./StG 1 at the end of 1940?
