Re: 11(h)Jg2 - Jg26 Fw Grüber Unverletz 31.7.42 Audembert?
I have a note that WNr.14055 was lost with 1./JG5 as white 3 + on 7 July 1943.
It is unlikely that an aircraft 70% damaged would be repaired to fly again. Have I got the wrong WNr. for the July 1943 loss, or is there an error in the records, or?... |

In the GQM loss returns and in the JFV Vol. 7 and Vol. 10/III two losses of the WNr. 14055 are listed:
30 Jul 1942 11./JG 26 Bf 109 G-1 70%; emergency landing airfield Audembert. 07 Jul 1943 I./JG 5 Bf 109 G-2 white 3 100%, crash location 100 km southwest of Egersund, pilot Fw Josef Sommeregger KIA. |

I agree with Andy why would they rebuild a 70% damaged G-1 as a G-2 when it would be easier to scrap it. It appears that there might be an error with Wk Nr or %

Re: 11(h)Jg2 - Jg26 Fw Grüber Unverletz 31.7.42 Audembert?
My toughts is also that the "New" 014055 is rebulid from another airframe - most possibly an F4 modofied to G2 standard with 20 to 35 % damage from an aufklarer unit.
Lokking for a airframe wit Wnr.7813 ( F4 serial?) Found on our Rh side main gear The 601E engine points on an F4 |
