Lamberty' Do17 crash 18/8/40
Hi guys
Memory failing again! Many moons ago I made some hand-written notes from an unrecorded (by me) source!! I believe the notes related to Oblt Lamberty's crash on 18 August 1940 following the Kenley raid. The account was apparently written by a young Home Guard soldier Lionel Blandford and included a young friend named Jack Cullip. They were in the vicinity at the time of the crash and helped rescue (I believe) Hptm Gustav Peters, who had baled out at low level and broke a leg. Can anyone identify the source of the account - magazine/book/website? Is the Lionel Blandford mentioned above now an author? And is he related to author Edmund Blandford? I've checked the latters's book 'Target England' and that is not the source I'm seeking! Cheers Brian |

Hi Brian,
I have only just seen your post. There are extensive quotes re. Lamberty in Strike from the Sky: The Story of the Battle of Britain, McKee, 1989, p. 144-54. Peter |

Quote:
I think the earliest edition of that book was in 1967, if not before, so there is a good chance the author could have contacted veterans while they were still relatively young. |
