Re: PLT OFF R MARCINKUS 1 SQN 12 FEB 42

Hi Chris. This appears to be BD949/J, the "4" is just visible on the photo; as "Air History" says. BD929 went to 73 Sqn. in Libya via Takoradi and was SOC 1/7/43. BD930/R was also 73 Sqn.
( In the National Archives they say BD949 was lost 23/11/41 with 238 Sqn. Sgt. D W Pike RAAF killed) but can't be right.
Havn't seen another photo of "J" though. Unusual that a Lithuanian pilot was in the RAF.

Regards
Nick
