Re: Contact Sudek 13

From other contacts I've learned that Sudek 13 is probably a bidding service.

So I've understood too. It seems from previous discussions on TOCH that some people might have been succesfull in establishing a contact with the person behind.

Re: Contact Sudek 13

Hello,

Sudek13 isn't a bidding service... Sudek13 is a person who runs a great archive toghether with another friend ( the one who was winning all photos on eBay before Sudek13 )... I can tell you for sure that one of the two guys is registred on this site... and that many friends and collaborators of the duo are on this site...
Anyway just send him an email through eBay... If he'll not answer it will not be because he doesn't want to help you... it's just that he runs a real bussiness and sometime he gets the time to look at the stuff that he buys on eBay after mounths and mounths...

Good luck!!! :-)

Re: Contact Sudek 13

Hello Hauptmann.
I log in every so often to see how things are going and came across this thread.

Sudek13. Whoever, he, she, or they are "Good For Them". For reasons known only to them, they have decided to amass an archive of WW2 related photos.
I have had the opportunity of seeing how poorly some collections are handled and hope they are doing a better job with theirs.
Maybe one day the fruits of their labour will be revealed. It would be nice to have resources which would allow one to collect history on this level.
I would venture to say they are not a bidding service, but may utilize a Sniper service. Search AuctionSniper and read all about it. What a concept.
If the objective is to win as many auctions related to your field of interest as possible, then a Sniper service would be the way to go.
I may have mixed feelings regarding sniping and have been sniped as well, but if it serves someone's purpose, then so be it.
Contacting Sudek13 unless you have sold something to them may be hard to do from eBay.
Good luck to all in your endeavours. I always enjoy this site. :-)

Re: Contact Sudek 13

Dear Fellow Researchers,

If Sudek 13 is willing to share with others what he has paid a princely sum for, then I thank him for his altruism. He'd certainly be a good person to know.

On the other hand, if he is collecting for the sake of collecting, without truly understanding the significance of what he is buying, that is another matter altogether.

Each of us has a specialty in which we are especially knowledgeable. Those few photos that come up for sale that we would like to examine at a reasonable price are frequently snatched away by Sudek 13 or others who appear to have unlimited resources at their disposal. Most of us don't. Specializing makes us particular apt at making the most of a new find that, to the general collector, would have no real significance.

So, Sudek 13, or one of your compatriots, if you are as I describe in my first paragraph, I would certainly like to make your acquaintance. My e-mail address is egerrt@dmv.com.

Regards,
Richard

Re: Contact Sudek 13

Thank you for that link. Ebay is a double-edged sword. On the one hand, I have seen some remarkable images, on the other, prices are going up as a few "work the system." But since paying the most money is the name of the game, there is no violation of the rules. For those who think the spirit of the hobby is being violated, I can point to comic books that are more recent and selling for thousands of dollars.

Yet again, valuable information is being gained and the photos are being viewed by a wider number of researchers in the convenience of our own homes. Higher dollar/Euro sales has also apparently spurred on some people to search for old photos in the hope of making as much or more money. This has also prevented some photos from ending up in the trash.

Like many things in life, there are pluses and minuses. C'est la vie!

Re: Contact Sudek 13

Oh yes, Sudek13, the scourse of Ebay.

I know who Sudek13 is and he is a very very wealthy man.

He is my worst nightmare on Ebay, just as to many others.

He is indeed building up a database of WW2 related photo's for future publications. But as I understand his collection is really unorganised at the moment.

The best you can do at the moment is to note the date, auction-number and description of the auction. That's at the moment the only way to get a copy of the photo for publication if and when Sudek13 is willing to supply that copy.

Don't contact me about the identity of Sudek13, because I have received this information from a friend who has contact with Sudek13 and this information was given in confidence and I will not disclose it any further.

Just take my advise about writing down the details of the auction.

Kind Regards,
Jan

Re: Contact Sudek 13

two courses of action ..sit back and not bid at all on any exciting new photo or otherwise put in the most ridiculous bid yourself ...knowing that you probably won't have to fork out - making S13 really pay through the nose.....one particular 190 image a while back might have cost me €350 although I kinda guessed I wouldn't get it...

bidding on Ebay strikes me as being a very inefficient & time consuming way of building up a collection of rare images...why not approach a recognised 'archive' or 'collection' (ie individual ...) directly and make an offer that can't be refused - put us all out of our misery....there are unpublished pictures out there that surpass anything seen on Ebay (...having seen some of them) and it doesn't take that much nouse to work out who might have them..
