Early RAF Liberators with Disney Characters

On Facebook, they recently showed an early RAF Liberator, with code "M", and a caricature of Goofy on the nose. I've also run across a couple of picture showing RAF Liberators with other Disney characters, such as a small Dumbo (the Flying Elephant). Does anyone know the serial number of the RAF Liberator with Goofy on the nose?

BZ980 according to:

Note that the code appears to be G, which fits with the name.

1944 would surely make it late RAF Liberators?

This is a B.VI BZ980, was 42-64076 a J-CF.
There is a photo on Dan's "b24bestweb" site.

From, Geoffrey Sinclair:

Not sure this is worth posting, more for information

BZ980 Taken on charge 26-Nov-43 as a B.VI, reported sent to India, ex USAAF 42-64076 accepted 30-Sep-43 as a B-24J-1-CF.

As for early/late Consolidated San Diego switched to the J model in August 1943. According to the various import reports to end November
1943 the UK had received 331 out of 751 B-24 wartime imports from the US, RAF overseas received 4 B-24 direct from the US in January 1942 after that there was nothing until October 1943, as of end September
1945 1,130 imports from the US.

A slight complication is the UK exported around 61 of the B-24 it imported, plus any that moved as part of RAF units.

Re: Early RAF Liberators with Disney Characters

I don't think it's BZ980. The picture is of a early B-24 in the Desert probably in the AL range. Wish we could still post pictures. The color photograph is of a Liberator II with a small Dumbo on the nose

Hi Kaki. Do you mean Liberator II AL511/A (108 Sqn.) with "Dumbo" emblem in Egypt 1942 ?
159 Sq. were fond of naming their Liberators after the aircraft letter, as.............
"W" Wottawitch
"X" Xtasty
"W" (second) Winnie
"G" Goofy
"P" Pegasus
"P" (second) Puggled Pete

Re: Early RAF Liberators with Disney Characters

The foto which appeared on Facebook shows a B-24D (Liberator II). It was take from a veteran's photo journal. It has the caption: "M" ready for Opps after being "Bombed Up". The picture itself is of poor quality but a Man size drawing of "Goofy" is apparent.

Khaki

Can you please give us a link to the pic you are looking at.
The one found by Andy is clearly marked G so can't be the one you refer to.

Cheers
Stig
