Post 3653.
1. B-17F date is 24 March 43 and part of serial is included--3108 which is probably 42-3108 force-landed at Bogalusa LA from 95BG on that date; to Class 26 as instructional airframe 25th. Based at Kearney AAB NB.
2. "Eve" ?
3. B-24H "Final Approach" 42-52457 7V-Q (458BG) lost 9 April 45 on Lechfeld Mission 935; hit by flak.
4. B-24H "Paddlefoot" 41-28719 J3-Q (458BG); bomb symbols on sign and "You name it--we'll feed it!" below.
5. B-24J "Silver Chief" 44-40201 (492BG as 9H); Group flew last mission 5 Aug. 44 for Special Duties and she went to 458BG as J4-N (Azon). Salvaged after force-landing 10 Jan 45 on continent. Artwork both sides.
6. B-24H "Plutocrat" 42-52455 RE-T (93BG) salvaged 26 May 45 at 3SAD Watton after accident.
7. Don't know her, may be 354FG though.

Photos 8 & 9. In July 43 a B-26B from each of the 3 Twelfth AF B-26 Groups was returned to USA for War Bond Tour starting in Baltimore........
"Lady Halitosis" 41-17765 (320BG), Group insignia on nose.

Re: eBay: Allied intrest

POST 3656.
309FS / 31FG. Serial overpainted but up-dated insignia dates it post-July 43. They were flying patrols over the Anzio beachhead at this time. All Spitfire IXs and all 3 pilots KIA in this area. 3--possibles......(Group was using double-letters then).....

EP615 WZ-GG (ex-Mk.V) F/O B.W. Collins, enemy aircraft over beachhead 7 Feb.44.
JL253 WZ-FF 2/Lt. W.W. Yokum (Flak ?) 7 Feb.44.
MA625 WZ-NN 2/Lt. W.G. Nisbet probably e/a 29 Feb.44. FW190s were in area.

This was shortly before re-equipping with P-51s. The Luftwaffe was strafing their base (Nettuno near the beachhead though main base was Castel Volturno) from the 29th. so maybe destroyed on the ground. There are MACRs for all 3.

Re: eBay: Allied intrest

Hi all,

looking for more info, or opinion - I see on these photos:
squadron code EB, cocpit of Spitfire
https://www.ebay.de/itm/397403020724...90.c101224.m-1
wheel from Spit
https://www.ebay.de/itm/397403022848...90.c101224.m-1

Same seller, same type of place, probably same crash - Spitfire from 41. SQ?

What do you think?

Faenor
