Re: Hptm Kurt Liedke

Liedke is a bit of a mystery man up to 1942. Shot down a Blenheim with 5./JG 53 20 Sep 39, then a Spitfire 13 Aug 40. Takes over 4./JG 53 following death of Oblt Richard Vogel 10 Oct 40. Then wounded by strafing at Arques 15 Apr 41. One kill in Russia (SB-3 7 Jul 41) and has handed over 4 Staffel by October 1941. Still looking

Re: Hptm Kurt Liedke

He was removed from his post Sep 41 due to personal differences with the then Gr Kdr. I now have a photo but it is not that good and I will ask who sent it to me if I can pass it on. Shows him in 1939

Re: Hptm Kurt Liedke

Hello Chris,

Thanks for your effort !

The 1./NJG 1 had a rough time in 1943. This Staffel lost several Staffelkapitäne in a rapid sequence:
Hptm. Knacke in the night of 3/4 February,
Oblt. Paul Gildner on the evening of 24 February,
Oblt. Horst Pause in the night of 12/13 March.
...and then Liedke had to take over this Staffel which must have suffered from low morale after these heavy losses.

As the strength and readiness of the 1./NJG 1 did not differ from the other two Staffeln, the number of nocturnal victories is very bleak when compared with the 2./NJG 1 and 3./NJG 1. Liedke's 1./NJG 1 left Venlo on 10 September 1943 to become the 10./NJG 5 in Erfurt-Bindersleben.

Best regards ! Marcel
