250 Sq claims and losses in the Med area

Hi All

By a freak chance I tried to check up the loss of a 250Sq Kittyhawk FR870 which according
to its loss records happened on 3 Nov 1943.

Unfortunately its AM 78 card is missing so no help there

Checking MAW 4 nothing is listed for that day, and even more odd, checking the index, there is nothing
about 250Sq in the entire book!

Can someone explain why the unit is not mentioned once and in particular why the loss of FR870 is not
mentioned?

Cheers
Stig

Stig

Human error in the text and the index was cut very short due to lack of space and size constraints. He was part of a 12 a/c mission that left at 0620 on a long range strafe. FR870 was flown by Sgt D Cowell. He was sen to force land back of enemy lines at S.4485. THe other 11 landed at 0945.

Thanks Guys

All clear! Actually Paul was the "culprit" ( ) who made me check the book (we are both members
of Air Britain) and the reason was the P-40M in USA (N1009N) which for a long time flew as FR870
GA-J

Stig/Paul

additional data if any use to you:

Completed at Curtiss Buffalo Plant - 21st Jan 43
En-route to the Middle East - 6th Apr 43 (Ship name on record but I question it so haven't added it here)
Test flown at 107MU 15th Jul 43

112 SQN as GA-T - 15th Jul 43 last noted 21st Aug 43
250 SQN as LD-G - 8th Oct 43 until lost 3rd Nov 43

Info on hand my end seems to indicate the aircraft was damaged by its own bomb blast and crash landed St Maria Nuova at Grid S.4435.

Thanks Craig

Always useful to have all your details, especially when it comes from the "horse's mouth" so to speak.

FYI Paul, Buz is a leading expert on all things Curtiss (well at least 1930s and 40s)

Cheers
