Re: eBay: Allied intrest
POST 3716.
Photo 3. P-61B 42-39605 "Carolyn" 417NFS probably at Fritzlar Y-86 post-war; ex-Twelfth AF in the MTO, to 1st.TAF and 64th Wing. Gloss Black, red serial, white spinners. 4. B-26B 41-31773 PN-O "Flak Bait" (name from pilot's dog "Flea Bait"), record 202 missions. No group colours; a restoration project. 5. B-26B 42-96173 "Wolf Pack" K5-L, 394BG written-off 3 Feb. 45 after battle damage. Group marking white diagonal tail band, black borders. 6-7. Possibly both 394BG also, "Special Delivery" 42-96292 ( but 322BG records as lost with them Nov.18 44 from Beauvais). Nick Addition to photo 7. I think "Miss America" is 394BG; pilot's name below cockpit "Lt. C. M. Cook"--there is a pilot with same name on the 394th. Group roster (same sqn., 584th.) as no.5 "Wolf Pack" code K5. Re: eBay: Allied intrest
Ed. Post 3723 Photo 3.
This MAY be Spitfire HFIX NH271 "V" no. 73 Sqn. Balkan AF crash-landed from sweep at Sanski Most (Bosnia) Feb. 5 1945; in Yugoslav partisan territory, there was also a British presence there. Based at Canne Italy; F/L R H Ball returned. I think I see "H27" anyway. 73 used single letters, some had their pre-war fuselage insignia. Regards Nick |

Re: eBay: Allied intrest
Andy possibles BE490, BE491 (274Sqn.) or BE493, BE494 (80Sqn.); the cocardes have been over-painted so personnel may be Yugoslav ? 491 went to Turkey.
Photo 4. B-25C 41-12831 82BS "Bulldogs"/12BG Ninth AF in Libya or Algeria 1943; objects in background look like B-25 bomb-bay gas tanks. Sand-Neutral Grey. Photo 5. B-24D 41-23785 (98BG Ninth AF) probably at Benina Main Benghazi in Libya 1943; collided with 41-11806 over sea on mission June 13 1943, both crews killed. MACRs 15649 - 15547. Sand-Neutral Grey; must be lost before aircraft letter applied. She just missed Ploesti. (Photo 1. A-20C / Boston IIIA 41-19242, could be ex-Soviet contract exchanged for Spitfires; note no RAF serial and US serial in black. RAF or SAAF. (Photo2 is a Baltimore). Nick |
