Re: eBay: Allied intrest

Bertrand,
The book "Curtiss Design 75 Hawk" (Hagedorn, Tincopa, European Airlines 2021) states in the production list on Page 205 that 84 was "lost behind enemy lines 17May40 near Flandes while being flown by Sgt. Cartier"
Was this a different aircraft? If so, which one please?
Andy

Re: eBay: Allied intrest

Andy

Hagedorn et al has misunderstood, possibly via a bad translation from the French, what happened
on the 17th vs 26th

On the 17th Sgt Cartier was on an afternoon mission from 15.25H covering the Walcherem sector
They encounterd Bf 109 from 1 & 2./JG 20 and it seems Cartier's Curtiss was slightly damaged
and he had to belly land his aircraft
However it was only slightly damaged and repaired very quickly only to be lost
on the 26th when the aircraft was on a morning mission in the Péronne-Douai-Valenciennes-St Quentin
sector.
Again encountering Bf 109 Sgt Raoul Bès was wounded and had to crash land No 84 behind enemy lines
and was both wounded and taken POW

Re: eBay: Allied intrest

#3762 : Andy if you want to read a solid production list of French H-75 I invite to read/buy this book Curtiss H-75 de l'armée de l'air (LELA press); French author Lionel Persyn gives between pages 404 to 433 the detail of each a/c

La Brayelle was a WWI A/F and now hold with factory car Renault. Other photos of this 84 show church of Brebières.

#3763 : tnx Stig for explanation
