I have just be informed of the passing of Albert “Barney” Barnett. Barney passed away in Bodmin hospital at 104 years old. Barney was a World War 2 Bomber pilot. He survived 80 combat sorties over Germany. Latterly he flew as a Pathfinder. Barney had no surviving family. His funeral is at Bodmin Crematorium on the 20th of May at 1130. I have been asked by Barney’s friend Gerry to organise the funeral. If you are available on the day would you like to attend? Blazers, medals and headdress would be appropriate. If you are a member of an association please parade your Standard at the funeral. This man deserves a send off.

Veterans line the streets to give WWII bomber pilot Alfred 'Barney' Barnett a hero’s send-off after he died aged 104 with no surviving family

Alfred ‘Barney’ Barnett, a former RAF Pathfinder from Bodmin, Cornwall, flew around 80 combat missions during the war, including raids on Germany and Operation Manna food drops over the Netherlands.

He later served at the Nuremberg trials and in post-war intelligence work.

Barnett died earlier this month in Bodmin Hospital with no living relatives.

Bodmin’s Royal British Legion issued a rallying cry for veterans to attend his funeral at Glynn Valley Crematorium on 20 May at 11:30am.

Dozens of veterans in blazers and medals, along with members of the public, lined the streets as his Union Jack-draped coffin passed, ensuring the 104-year-old hero received a proper send-off.
