Rolf Kaldrack's Spanish claims?

Hi Guys

Kaldrack was alleged to have made three claims whilst in Spain. Apart from the fact we have no dates for these I am finding it improbable.

Firstly he was an observer with KG 88, then with AG 88, it took him a while to pass out as a pilot because of his short-sightedness.

Secondly I not at all sure he had the right aircraft.

If he did make claims it must be towards the end or middle at earliest of the campaign in Spain.

Would anybody happen to know anymore about this early time with the Luftwaffe like Staffel number or anything really. Even during WW2 he it more than a little obscure to me.

Kind Regards

Johannes

Re: Rolf Kaldrack's Spanish claims?

Hi Johannes

I agree he sounds a bit odd in Spain.
Ries, in his book Legion Condor, lists him with three claims during that civil war, but basically nothing else.

He is first mentioned as a Beobachter in the Heinkel 70 Aufkärer-Kette based at Salamanca (roughly Spring 1937)
Second mentioning (and last time) is during the Battle of Bilbao, where he flew a Heinkel 45.

Not a word about these three claims.
I highly doubt he scored anything being a BO and flying a He 45 would not give him much chances either.

Perhaps air to ground claims?

Cheers
Stig

Many thanks for your input Stig.

They could also have been as a gunner(if so armed), but most likely nothing at all.

Kind Regards
