Eagles Of The RAF, by Philip Caine has 10 pages on the Dieppe Raid.
Typhoon 1A/B Combat Log: Operation Jubliee August 1942, by Hugh Harkins JG26 War Diary Vol 1, 1939-1942; by Donald Caldwell. Has 10 odd pages of the quite detailed JG 26 response to Operation Jubilee inlcuding missions, times, claims and losses.

Calpe after being attacked by a Ju88, was near missed by several bombs from 'three or four; Fw190's, which also strafed the ship causing a number of casualties (including Air Commodore Cole who was wounded). I believe the most likely aircraft that attacked Berkely was one of the two I.KG2 Do217 bombers that lost at this time (WNr.5503/U5+BB or WNr.1179). They were part of a group of five that attacked shipping off Dieppe and being lost would explain the lack of a claim being made. Regards, Steve |
