Bjørn Hafsten - Norwegian aviation author and researcher

Sadly, I heard through other channels that Bjørn Hafsten, one of the co-authors of our book on the Heinkel He 115, as well as many other books in his native Norway, passed away on Friday 29 May 2026. I don't know the circumstances, but am relaying the message.

I just heard from his wife Margunn that our great Seaplanes - Björn Hafsten
passed away on May 28th.

He had been ill for a while and in the end had to make his last flight.

It is with great sadness I have to write this since even if we never met, we corresponded
for many years

Stig - well said. Ths is a deep loss to the research community.

I bumped into Björn about 25 years ago at Kew purely by chance. He was an assiduous researcher and ploughed his own furrow, continuing to do so until his passing.

My thoughts are with his family.
