Pictures and history of Hurricane IIc BE704?

Hi Alex. LD784 was a IIc in 28Sqn. in India.
BG764 was flown |(among others) in June-July by Lt. Waugh, Lt. Hope, Capt. Metelerkamp, 2/Lt. Jory, Lt. Sinclair. Best candidate. Also mentioned in the Appendix.

We have BG764W with Lt. Waugh shooting down Lt. Körner of JG 27 on 4 July (including reports from both Waugh and Körner), and the plane is then Cat. II damaged by a Bf109 on 25 July, again with Waugh at the controls.

Thank you for the history of BG764! It definitely matches the "No. 1 Special" that Lawrence Waugh flew on 14 June 1942 according to the ORB:

Takoradi ORB says ferried to Middle East, departing early April 1942.

1 SAAF took part in Operation Crusader, pulled back to Maaten Bagush
Area in February 1942, to LG92 south of Alexandria in June 1942.

Thanks Geoff / Stig. Yes I saw that; I only know she is mentioned at least 12 times in the Summary and Appendix , as AX-W. Photo here (says it's BG764 anyway) certainly "W", I only remember 1-"W" in 1SAAF. Still has filter, also nice colour profile.

Hi Jim. It's in the Sqn. Record you posted above. They couldn't reach the high-flying German recons. so stripped 764, some armour, air filter, removed 8 guns (it was a Mk.IIb).
On June 4 Blue section sighted a hostile when at their ceiling (33,000ft) he was still estimated 7,000ft. above. Hence the modifications.

The problem with BG764 is that the dates don't fit.
As already mentioned, the AM78 records BG764 as SOC FB 6.4.42.
It can't therefore have been flying in June 1942....

Hi Andy. I checked a Maltese site "ElGranCapitan" for 6 April. 5 Hurricanes (Z3757, BE349, BE351, BG698, BG764) and 2 Spits (AB338, AB454) were destroyed on ground or damaged beyond repair. This was on Malta (Luqa). Beats me.
