Me-262 photo

I found this photo at a local antique shop. Is the werk number and location known for this aircraft?

Re: Me-262 photo

Since there are no visible markings, I doubt a positive ID can be given.

Re: Me-262 photo

Hi Revi,

http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/album....pictureid=1984

The object on the wing may be a GI's camera. However, your Me 262 has a simple black hakenkreuz and lacks any white gun rectangles under the cannon access hatches. This identifies it as from the later 500xxx werknummer series.

From the late Dan McConnell's Me 262 Production Log, (Classic, 2005), p. 178:

"500520 Call sign KZ+DD. Me 262 A. Noted in an American post-war intelligence report war [sic] that it had been found damaged. Equipped with what was described as a 'Revi " EZ-A and 1" (EZ-42?) gyro gunsight.

It definitely is not an EZ-42!

all the best,

Jim

Mounted? It's a camera, but just laying on the wing, most likely the G.I.'s. It doesn't really match the Luftwaffe camera you mentioned.

Re: Me-262 photo

G.I.s were notorious for removing souvenirs from aircraft. Although I don't discourage anyone from looking, everything is not online. Along with that is the fact that a flurry of activity lasting several years on any site can stop, ending interest. Also, entering the wrong search term can give zero results if a search function is available. Finally, the internet is unsorted. I have found a number of things by accident in various places.

I stick with books and other paper references.

Proper detective work requires listing the possibilities. The camera on the wing could have been taken from a POW. It seems that most German soldiers carried a camera of some type. Depending on the actual date of this photo, the camera could have been a post-war purchase.

Re: Me-262 photo

The photo is dated May 17, 1945 Most likely an Army Signal Corps camera.

Re: Me-262 photo

There is no way to know. The camera could be owned by a curious passer-by. The Signal Corps did take photos of German equipment. But that also applies to various intelligence teams that were looking for items of interest in German occupied territory.
