Re: US air combat claims of the Vietnam war

Wait--North Korean pilots flew over NVN?? That is very new info. I had always heard that the NVAF always used it's own 'talent pool'. |

Re: US air combat claims of the Vietnam war
That's what Showtime 112 on youtube says. I have read about non North Vietnamese pilots flying combat against the US during this war over the years. This is the first where they give the names of the pilots.

I, too had heard rumors of foreign pilots in the NVAF but it had always been 'poo-pooed' as just rumors and gossip. |

Re: US air combat claims of the Vietnam war
yes the North Korean pilots.
I think I read in warspot.ru about a Russian pilot KIFA over North Vietnam in the early 1970s. Soldier of Fortune magazine November 1985 has an article "Soviet Cong" about Russians in both the 1st and 2nd Indo-china wars. |

Re: US air combat claims of the Vietnam war
I suggest the following: Clashes: Air Combat over North Vietnam, 1965 - 1972 by Marshall Michel III.
The Tonkin Gulf Yacht Club: Naval Aviation in the Vietnam War by Thomas McKelvey Cleaver. |

It's a very late response but I second 'Clashes' although there is a few drawbacks: no names are given (but I'm sure people can figure out who the persons if they know a bit of air war history) and the book has no lists breakdowns of the vics and losses by the USN and USAF. As for McKelvey, some folks had problems with him inserting his political opinions into his book on the Korean Airwar, so I am going to hold off on his offerings. |
