The first victories of 5./ZG26 date from May 15,1940 (3) during a mission against Namur around 14.00-14.30
Rochel=1
probably Fritz Herber (with reference to the decoration awaeded on May 19;Iron Cross 2nd Class for 1 to 3 victories)

A single victory for 5./ZG26 on June 1st against Dunkirk around 16h

Hard to say if he got Russell as nobody saw him being shot down. There was another claim by Oblt Jürgen Moeller of 2./ZG 1 who collided with a Spitfire possibly from 222 Sqn

Since II./ZG 26 was in heavy combat against the French on the 14th, who DID claim on that day?

All I can see are 18 claims by III Gruppe on 14 May 40 but how accurate this is I cannot

I only checked Cornwell and his The Battle of France then & now. Is he wrong?

Roba in his Le III./ZG 26 says 19 claims were made between 13.00 - 13.45H,
but only lists 13 of them in detail.
Later in the day he adds four more claims at about 19.45H

Moeller's "claim" took place in the morning around 7.h (10 victories by I./ZG1)

According Red 2 (F/O Edge):Russell was attacked and hit by a Me.110 (Patrol over Dunkirk from 14.45/15.45)...he was last seen spiralling down
