Victory over Arthur Monroe Lingo 728686 Pilot KIA P-51 43-12122 11-04-1944
Who could be the victor?
Arthur Monroe Lingo 728686 Pilot KIA P-51 43-12122 ( 357th Fighter Group 362nd Fighter Squadron) likely enemy airplane vertically into a deep, marshy bog roughly 2.5 km west of Miesterhorst (today an Ortsteil of Gardelegen, Saxony-Anhalt). The aircraft was completely destroyed; only scant human remains were recovered. 11-04-1944 Seen on the ground by German: Kennz. d . Maschine: nicht feststellbar.- Abschuszursache.- durch 2 deutesche Jaeger, die breite rote Streifen am hinteren Ende dem Rumpfes trugen - That would indicate Jagdgeschwader 1 (JG 1 "Oesau") i think. KUJ-815 MACR 3732 Any thoughts? |

Chris.... the P-51s reported 109s with "2 red dashes on fuselage" presumably JG1's single. This was a big action, 357th lost 3 (Arthur Lingo KIA on WOM at Margraten, George Currie POW, Wm. Gray POW). Awarded 29 in Study 85, 362-7, 363-12, 364-10.
All times given in MACRs approx. 1130. Regards Nick |

Kahl's claim for a Mustang is No. 8 on this page and was at 5000 m. However, there is another claim for a Mustang in No 17 by a Uffz. Grube of 3./JG1 at 11:30 hrs. at 200 m. I do not know if the co-ordinates match. |

Re: Victory over Arthur Monroe Lingo 728686 Pilot KIA P-51 43-12122 11-04-1944
I found Gray im the KUJ . Btw not red dashes. Nor a type is given Read the kuj. The macr sometimes have translated parts of ku or just J or kuj files. There are mistakes in translations.
Type given in the MARC is a fight with 190. Subject dived onto an enemy airplane losing wingman because foged up windscreen. Not seen again by allied eyes. 2 German fighters following this p-51 down must mean it was not an altitude victory because why follow down. I would suggest medium height because of the violent impact. |
