JUNKERS 88 Szklarska Poreba

Hello everyone. Please, does anyone have information regarding a potential Junkers 88 loss in the Szklarska Poreba area during 1944–1945? I have come across an unsolved crash site, but there is nothing there to identify the aircraft's *Werk nummer*. The date of the crash is unknown. Thank you in advance for replies. Best regards, Tolesa.

Re: JUNKERS 88 Szklarska Poreba

No loss data for you, but as this Polish place is in Silesia, then part of Germany, any loss will in German document will use the German name of this place: Schreiberhau.

There is no match on fold3 in the German "death card" section for a casualty in this place, but this section is lacking most of 1944-1945 casualties (and almost all missing ones for the whole war).

Thank you very much for the information; I was trying to see if I could find anything out. A Junkers 88 reportedly crashed near Oberschreiberhau on June 20, 1944... But I don't have any further details...

Matti,
Your kindness in answering most of us, members of this Board, and helping us with your vast knowledge and LW data is simply unique.
We owe you quite a lot, and you know that.
I take my hat for your gentleness throughout the years.
Thank you for another doubt/mistery solved. Am sure that Tolesa will complement this humble words, from the deep of my heart/soul.
IF you ever come those Southlands, I owe you a couple of beers and will be glad to be your wingman.

I concur with Adriano's thanks. Just a funny comment: for Finnish Matti most of the Earth is "Southlands".

Death cards can be found on fold3 for Schütz, Probst and Schmid but not for Bucher.
Same on Volksbund.

Riesengebirge is known in English as the Giants Mountains, a mountain range on the Czech-Polish border (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giant_Mountains).

Re: JUNKERS 88 Szklarska Poreba

Last time I checked, the northern part of the Riesengebirge mountains were located in Schlesien, which at that time was a German province. As for the rest, that was a consequence of the collapse of the K.u.K. monarchy.

Matti Salonen, thank you very much for the information regarding the names associated with the loss; it helped me a great deal. I thought I had visited the crash site of this Junkers, but unfortunately, it turns out that isn't the case...
