Two Do. 217 downed on 21 July 1944

I'm trying to find out the names, rank, a/c serial nos and unit that two Do. 217's came from. The two aircraft were shot down in the afternoon of 21 July 1944 by two Mosquitoes of 235 Squadron providing air cover for 14th Destroyer Escort Group RN.

If anyone could help I'd be sincerely grateful.

Yours sincerely,

Andy Bird

Re: Two Do. 217 downed on 21 July 1944

According to Ulf Balke's Kampfgeschwader 100 »Wiking«, Do 217 M-11 Werk Nummer 3038 of 9./KG 100 was lost on 21 July 1944.

ADI(K) Report No. 379/1944 identifies two aircraft shot down as Do 217 Ks, 6N+CS and 6N+GS, the latter flown by the Staffelführer of 9./KG 100, Oblt. Karl Lamp. The other machine was flown by a scratch crew from the 7., 8. and 9. Stafflen and the pilot was Uffz. Gustav Schmidt. Seven of the eight airmen were rescued by the ships they were meant to attack, one was MIA.

They were part of a force of six Dorniers sent out from Toulouse/Blagnac to attack shipping of Brest with Hs 293s.

Hi Chris

Am I at fault believing that a third Do217 was lost?

Cheers
