Bf 109F-4 Trop "8 white"

Hi Friends,
I would like to have information on Bf 109F-4 Trop "8 white", flown by Gustav Rodel, Staffelkapitan of the 4./JG27 North of Africa 1942. I have three questions:
1.Qual WNr. of this a/c?
2. Would the camouflage pattern be RLM 79 in the whole fuselage and engine and on top of the wings? Would RLM 78 only be in the inferior parts?
3. Could anybody send me a picture of this a/c?
I await contact, thank you.
Hugs,

E. Brettas

Re: Bf 109F-4 Trop "8 white"

Hi,

the W.Nr. 8596 was a mount of Ofw.Erwin Sawallisch. There is probably no photo of Roedel`s plane except one or two photos of his Emil`s rudder (W.Nr.4180) taken during Balkan campaign in April 1941.

Regards

Robert

Re: Bf 109F-4 Trop "8 white"

There was also Bf 109 G-4/Trop “white triple chevron 4”, flown by Hpt. Gustav Rödel, kommandeur of II/JG 27 at Trapani/Sicily in April 1943 – for example you can find a nice profile in Jerry Scutts’ “Bf 109 Aces of North Africa and the Mediterranean”, Osprey Aircraft of the Aces no. 2. Although it’s quite popular, I haven’t seen any photo of this a/c.

Do I understand You well, Brettas? Are there 39 victories and 2 ships on the rudder?

Problem is that total account of Ofw. Erwin Sawallisch was 38 in time of his death (19 August 1942).

Rödel claimed his 39th on 24 April as an Oblt. and staffelkapitän 4./JG 27, after promotion he became gruppenkommandeur of II/JG 27 on 1 May.

Is it possible that W.Nr. is wrong?

Rödel’s Bf 109 F-4/Trop “white 8” from 1942 would be absolutely new for me.

Regards

Nef

Hi,

They are 39 victories and 2 ships.
I have two leaves of decal of SuperScale and AML. WNr. it is this same one.
G.R.Morrisson told me that Ofw. Erwin Sawallisch was involved in problems with their victories in 1942.
I will make an image of this decal and sending for you.

Hi,

white tripple chewron four was probably from stab/JG77. The stab/JG27 used as a rule another system of markings.

Re: Bf 109F-4 Trop "8 white"

What Robert said - 'white 8' is Sawallisch and 'white <<<' is JG 77 (as is the 'white <A' sometimes asscociated with Schroer!!).
