Re: unknown B17 crash at Lower Austria

Thanks to all who are helping.
I have a larger version of the picture but could not post it in the forum. There you can read the number. The first one, the "2" is most clearly visible. I am sure about the other ones too. Only the last one could be a "3" or "8". So the serial is "23343" or "23348". It looks more as an "8". But that would mean France. What means the "C" and "G" on the tail?

Regards,

Kurtl

Re: unknown B17 crash at Lower Austria

Kurt - Square on tail means 3d Bomb Division 8th Air Force , England
C inside Square is for 96th BG. Snetterton , England
G is the B - 17s Identification / Call Letter
AW - 337th Sq.
Would have had AW G on Fuselage
G on tail below Serial #
Mike
