Lt (jg) Warren Omark, VT-24 (June 1944)

Hi!

Which the name and rank of the turret gunner and radioman-gunner of Lt. Warren Omark, when he flew the TBF-1C Avenger, White 9, of VT 24 abord CVL-24 Belleau Wood, in the "mission beyond darkness" in First Battle of the Philippine, June 20, 1944?

Cheers,

Franklin

Re: Lt (jg) Warren Omark, VT-24 (June 1944)

This won't answer your question, but will get you closer to it - in Barrett Tillman's Carrier Battle in the Philippine Sea (Phalanx), there are 2 photos showing the pilots and crews of the four VT-24 Avengers that flew the "mission beyond darkness" on 20 June 1944, including Lt. W. R. Omark's crew. One photo shows Lt. (jg) G. P. Brown with his crewmen: George Platz and Ellis Babcock. The other photo shows 7 of the 8 crewmen of Lt. Omark and Lt. (jg) B. C. Tate, Ens. W. D. Luton, and Lt. Brown: John E. Prince, Robert E. Ranes, James Dobbs, George Platz, Philip Whiting, James Brookbank, and Ellis Babcock (crewman John F. Siwicki is not in the photo). No ranks are given for the crewmen. By eliminating the names of Brown's crewmen, you're left with 6 possible names for Lt. Omark's 2 crewmen - at least that's a start !
