A Me 109 G-6 in Moscow?

Good evening,

I chanced on this internet page about a Salon SU event organized last year in Moscow, or so I understand as I'm not fluent in russian:

http://www.salon.su/rus/content/view/176/983/0/

On this webpage, there is a pristine looking Me 109 G-6 Black 1 with no W. Nr. to be seen, among the exhibits. Is this a genuine machine or a copy? If genuine, I would be most interested to know which plane it was and what it's background history is. Thanks in advance

Marc

75 % original. Contact me off board and I will send you our latest magazine which has a piece on this aircraft.

Hi,

This is Me109G-6 #411968. If I recall if was from JG5 originally...but you can see the landing gear is not original and some other fabricated parts.

Re: A Me 109 G-6 in Moscow?

Thanks, Harisson for this update. Any source for those informations (date and place of crashlanding, date of recovery, ultimate destination for W.Nr. 411968)? From the WerKnummer, I surmise this plane was built quite late in 1944. A very intersting plane, indeed.

Thanks again for any further info

MArc

Re: A Me 109 G-6 in Moscow?

Dear Oleg,

Thanks for those welcome informations. i checked back in the forum and found the post of Jim P. :
Bf 109G-6, 411768, Schlammer, Fw. Willi, , 11., JG 5, schwarze, 1 +, RW+ZI, , 23-Aug-44, MIA in Luftkampf., , Finnland, Valtonen, LW Pohjoinen Sivusta, p.398, , Petsamo, 100%, F.

Could you give us more info about where you found it? And the current whereabouts of your former plane? What intrigues me in this particular G-6 is the lack of an Erla Haube and a late wooden tailplane. Given the high W.Nr and the date of its loss, this comes as an astonishment.

Thanks for an further details and for any picture regarding its state when recovered. Would this be possible?

Marc

Re: A Me 109 G-6 in Moscow?

Hi Marc

We found 411768 at the forest near Pechenga (ex-Petsamo) at 1997. i am attached some photos from crash-place. We found also pilot ID but no any remains. Seems that may be Polar Foxes eat the body of pilot completely... Or may be we not found any remains of pilot because may be wrecks of airplane was moved from other place as some pieces of a airplane structure - the main landing gears - have disappeared and we have found out only tailwheel. Stainless ID of pilot was found at rear part of fuselage. Photo available.

On board as you can see not RW+ZI, but FN+RX - this code seems correct

Re: A Me 109 G-6 in Moscow?

Hi Oleg,

Thanks so much for sharing your pictures with us. Considering the state of the wreck, iyour restauration workk was definitely a major enterprise! Congratulations. I take good note of the correct code as well.
The whereabouts of Fw. Willi Schlammer is something of a mistery: he obviously succeded in crash landing his stricken plane, given the evidence of the pictures you posted. Given the season, no severe cold... so no evident reason for his MIA status.
Where is the plane now? Sold to a private owner? Is it on public display? Thanks for the ongoing update!

Marc

Re: A Me 109 G-6 in Moscow?

Hi Marc

Thank you for the words about our restoration efforts.

I am attached photo ID plate of pilot.
Wing of 411768 was in good condition and not very heavy damaged. But the fuselage has broken on three large piece. Section of cockpi was very damage and I think that canopy was not open by pilot after crash-landing, because central section of canopy was near windscreen section as you can see. Usually when we found any another 109 - we can see what happened because 109 canopy has drop-system for accidents.
But in case with Willy Schlammer i think that he was kild in accident and it was very strange that we found ID and not found any remains for buried.
Now airplane at new private Technikal Museum near Moscow at Ilinskoe Road 4th KM at the North-West from Moscow. The owner of Museum is Vadim Zadorozny (www.automuseum.ru) and the Museun will be open for public next summer. Now the building of Museum in work and 411768 on storage but available for view if you call at museum directly

Oleg
