332nd FG Tribute

Didn't know where to place this subject, so put it here.

I have recently started building a tribute to some heroes of mine, the 332nd FG. I would like it to serve as both an informative and educational section to my site.

I must also mention, that while my website is a commercial venture, the tribute is my own personal 'project' and is worked on in my free time, as a 'labour of love' you might say. I will of course place my Red Tail art in the art section of the tribute, but the rest of it will hopefully interest guys and gals like ourselves, who are interested in the history, while also preserving the memory of those who made such sacrifices. If I can draw (excuse the pun) a few people to the tribute and they learn about this unit, then it's a worth while project. 66 of the airmen didn't come home, so this is for them!

Nice idea

Just a remark, on the facts page, you said that the 332nd FG shot down 3 Me 262 (true) while 8 were shot by Allied aircrew. I don't have precise number but the number of Allied claims for Me 262 is well over 100. Maybe this figure of 8 is for the 15th AF ?

This is a very good point. Will make a note of it and check it out when time allows.

Thanks for pointing that out, and feel free to comment if you find anything else. I have found a mass of contradicting information during my research, so it's a question of getting it right.

Your site on the 332nd FG is well-done and a nice tribute. They overcame enormous prejudice and barricades to do what they did. And they did it with style and panaché. As a US Southerner, born and bred, I know what those "Jim Crow" times were like.

However, history is history. While their accomplishments were great, the claim of never having lost a bomber under their escort is not true. This was popularized into myth and by repetition and political correctness into fact. Recent research reveals this is not true and, even beyond that, could never be proven anyway. I suggest you Google 332nd or Tuskegee Airmen and see this recent research.

The reason I have posted my tribute, is so people such as yourself can not only hopefully view and enjoy the site, but also to add opinions, ideas and a wealth of information that our combined members can offer.

Your feedback is gratefully appreciated.

I will certainly look into this.

As a side note, I am thinking of later creating some more tributes to other, lesser well known outfits of WW2, so please feel free to add your suggestions.
