Re: Photos 3-21-05 Part 1

The 9th (.....227) and 11th (.......635) Bf.109 had been taken at Pantelleria airport. In the second shot 51° Stormo C.202 are visible so, probably, the pictures had been taken during the mid august 1942 battle, when 155° Gruppo of 51° Stormo deployed to that island.

As mentioned in Under the Red Star by Carl-Fredrik Guest, a number of ex-Bulgarian Ar 196's were captured in 1944 in the Black Sea. Perhaps our Russian ally decided to pass along one of their war prizes to the U.S., although I could not tell the nationality/type of ship in the photo.

Cracking selection again Ed!

Can anybody confirm if SE+RL was an Ar66? I have a couple of Ar66's listed in the SE+R? range..

Re: Photos 3-21-05 Part 1

Thank you Peter. I dare say you could make a little money by publishing some of those fine photos on the LEMB. Any copyright problems not withstanding.

Ed

I get the same pleasure as you do Ed... I'm just glad that you keep finding the time and enthusiasm to trawl through Ebay and find these gems...

As for copyright, its an old chestnut that will just not go away. With regards the LEMB, I'm always more than happy to remove the images if the buyer wishes...

cheers

Re: SCAM regarding Photos 3-21-05 Part 1

The person captioning the 7th and 12 photos as potential Marseille related is trying a scam or a hype.

The rudder shot shows the pilot to have been awarded the RK+EL after 40 victories. As we know Marseille was awarded the RK after 50 victories and the EL after 70. The nose of the I./JG 27 machine might be any 109F out of several hundred that flew with that Gruppe emblem.

The seller of these photos, even though he posted a ? mark on the caption, should be warned or thrown off Ebay.

Re: Photos 3-21-05 Part 1

Hi John,

the rudder is from Olt.S.Freytag`s a/c (3/JG77). Timeframe: ca. 3-6 Juli 1942.
