Another misidentified aircraft, and possible unit affiliation, would White 44, recently confirmed as being from JG301.

There are no known losses of the Bf 109 with JG7, which I feel is the most compelling evidence for there being no 109s in the unit. (Compare this figure with losses of training and support aircraft of the EJG, KG(J) Me 262 units - you'll see what I mean)

I am very interested in yellow 20 and have tried to find more evidence on this aircraft, would you be able to point me to any more info on whether Yellow 20 was a G-14, G-6 and was this aircraft used for airfield defence of the Me 262s of Erg. KGr(J) ?

Any help much appreciated
Cheers
Tony

Re: Bf 109G-10 info needed

Tony,

As much as I'd love Yellow 20 to be part of a protection flight, the sad truth is that Erg KG(J) purpose was to re-train bomber pilots (from KG6, 30 and 54), via piston engined aircraft (i.e. yellow 20, etc), to fly the Me 262. Once trained they'd be farmed out to one of the KG(J) units.

Yellow 20 was reported (via 1 TAF - thanks to Rabe Anton here:http://109lair.hobbyvista.com/articl.../ge20/ge20.htm) as a G-4 (typo?) or G-6.

It's markings were also reported as 20+|, although I believe the III. gruppe bar is a misinterpretation of the white trestle stripe under the tailplane. Additionally I have some evidence to support the theory that the fuselage band was not an overpainted yellow one, but was in fact red. I have a little more info on the aircraft of this unit, but it'll have to go PM (I'm afraid) if you're interested,

Hope this helps,
Chris

Re: Bf 109G-10 info needed

For me yellow 20 + | had a yellow narrow fuselage band , as many aircrafts of EKG(J) found at Pilsen wore .

It could be a machine coming from a previous unit and given to this replacement group .

Please have a look at "Luftwaffe over Czech Replublic, JaPo Publishing) , you could fin several machines wearing the same fuselage band , Fw 190As , Fw 190D-9s, Bf109G-6s, or Bf190G-14s .

Many thanks for the info Chris and Eric. I would appreciate any info regarding a red band Chris as it definitely looks darker than the Yellow 20 but as we all know B&W photos can be misleading
