L9039
Mk IV. Served with 108 Squadron; 13 OTU. 08/04/40 with 13 OTU at Bicester and crashed at 1120 hours on Carnedd Llewelyn, 6 miles south south-east of Bethesda, Caernarvon after it left formation in cloud during a cross-country training sortie. It is thought that the pilot may have been dazzled by the sun as he broke out of the overcast. The crew was killed. 740183 Sgt Alfred Ernest Hall is buried in Wandsworth (Putney Vale) Cemetery; 581508 Sgt Fred Graham in Bury Cemetery, Redvales, Lancashire; and 751999 LAC Geoffrey Halstead James in Woodbury Church Cemetery, Devon.

Hi Trevor,
I was interested to see your inquiry.
I visited the site of the crash a few years ago--the reason being is the Sgt Hall-the pilot was my uncle.
I would be interested in the information which you have. I would especially like to contact any relatives of the crew as I would like to organise for a memorial stone to be placed at the site. At that time my father was with 220 Sqn flying Hudsons.
Regards,
Bjorn
