Barbarossa: The Air Battle - Christer Bergström

I note that the 1st volume of Barbarossa: The Air Battle is advertised in the latest Midland Counties catalogue.

How does this new series differ from the BCRS series or is there a significant overlap in material.

Best Regards

Andy Fletcher

I received this book today and had to read the chapters about the Army Group North part of the front first. There seems to be far more material then in the 1st volume of BC/RS and corrections made with new material. The VVS pilots are covered better about the first days of the war. It has 18 chapters and 5 Appendix along with a lot pictures (B/W and some color) and maps. So far I like what I've read but I know it can't cover everything.

This book is far better then BC/RS #1. It still doesn't have anything on the Finnish pilots but it does mention the FAF. The amount of verified claims by VVS pilots is far more but also it has the information about their over claims. It also has info on the Luftwaffe over claims and under claims. On the southern front and the northern front (Arctic) there is a lot of new information but I get the feeling that there will be more coming out about JG54 with his books on Hans Ekkehard Bob and Max-Hellmuth Ostermann then listed in this book. It doesn't have the units listed in the index so you just have to find them as you go. If JG51 is your area of interest this has a lot more then BC/RS #1 for the push on Moscow. I'm sure that micro campaign books like Bernad's will fill in many gaps that can't be covered. Still a very good book.
