Holá
The photoalbum shows indeed rare photos of I.KG51 when transformed to Jet Fighter Unit in Rheine. On the wing of a Me 262 stands Kommandeur of I.KG51 Major Unrau. The wounded pilot is StKp 3.JG51 Hptm Eberhard Winkel at last kia 21.3.45 in Giebelstadt during his 300st sortie.
Cheers

Hi Guys

What do you make of this 109?
Can we assume the digits on the fuselage is the WNr and if yes, why were they painted like that????

Re: Photos 7-5

I thought the same Stig. The same image appears on page 27 of "The Messerschmitt Bf109 Part 1 - Prototype to E Variants" [Lynn Ritger, SAM Publications 2005] along with the following caption:

"This Bf109D-1, WNr.2877 suffered a forced landing at some point which damaged the flaps and cowling. Here it is seen prior to a test flight after repairs have been completed but before camouflage has been applied to the aircraft."

cheers
