Many thanks for your reaction. It 's a picture from our local archive. Strange if it would be not Belgian-nic, to appear in the archives. But that's says nothing, I learned.

Re: unidentified Bf1039 (?) Oud-Turnhout/ Belgium
The plane´s 1G + KT, not 1G + HT.
I have a photo of + HT and the situation is quite different... Regards Fran |

Re: unidentified Bf1039 (?) Oud-Turnhout/ Belgium
Thanks to all.
I do think that it is more likely 1G + KT too. Seraching for clue' I was thinking, (taking inaccount the actionradius of the He 111) that it might been a plaine stationned in France in 1944 at Connantre airfiels East of Paris and only 250 Km away from Oud-Turnhout. It's just an idea I must say I'm tickled by your phot and the quote that the situation is quite different. could you give more details on that? does it means you can link it with place, date and crew? And does anyone has the "werknummer" of the plaine? best regards Herman |

Re: unidentified Bf1039 (?) Oud-Turnhout/ Belgium
Herman,
The position of the swastica on the tail and style of markings almost certainly confirms that this was an aircraft down during 1940, most likely during the May-June Blitzkrieg, not sometime later. Regards, |

Re: unidentified Bf1039 (?) Oud-Turnhout/ Belgium
Hi...
Yes, I would have to agree that this is most likely a photo from early on in the war. As mentioned, the position of the swastika overlapping the fin/rudder hinge line would seem to confirm this. I would say that it almost certainly dates the photo to no later than the end of the Battle of Britain in 1940. It's definitely a He111P because of the air intake on the left side of the engine cowling, and was operational with KG27 'Boelke'. As others have stated, it was part of 9.Staffel, within III.Gruppe. According to the Luftwaffe Order of Battle for 7th September, 1940, III.Gruppe was based at Rennes in France, under the command of Major Freiherr Speck von Sternburg, and equipped with the He111P-2. Stab. and I.Gruppe/KG27 were based at Tours, with II.Gruppe stationed at Dinard and Bourges. Regards |
