5.7.40 Hurricane I 238 Sqn The Pennings, North Tidworth, Wilts. Dived In Ground

P3767
257 Sqn, destroyed in the landing accident at Northolt 12.07.40, P/O the Hon D.A.Coke unhurt

Has the following:

21.07.40: Reconn. over airfields in Bournemouth, Bristol, Oxford and Portsmouth area: 4(F)/14.
Do 17M, Wnr.780, 5F+OM of 4(F)/14.
Oblt. Georg Thiel (B) POW injured
Fw. Fritz Bohnen (F) POW injured
Uffz. Alfred Werner (Bf) POW injured
Intercepted by the Hurricanes of A Flight, 238 Sq. (Middle Wallop);
S/Ldr. Harold Fenton, F/Lt. Donald Turner, F/O. C.T.Davies,
P/O. J.S.Wigglesworth and Sgt. L.G.Batt.
The Dornier was shot down and crash-landed at Nutford Farm, 1 mile north of
Blandford, Dorset at 15.00 hrs. During the combat Hurricane P3767, flown by P/O. C.T.Davies, was damaged by return fire.

This is fantastic information, exactly what this forum is all about.

I am more and more convinced it is the 18th July, he perhaps was flying P2948, when it was lost on this date and i know from several ORB's that Bann had flown this aircraft on several occasions.

WITH RISK OF REPEATING MYSELF FROM THE OTHER FORUM...!
Interestingly Banns letter says he was missing for three days, then on return got leave for two days...if he went missing on the 18th his return to combat would have been on the 24th, I have an ORB with him flying on the 25th so this date does fit.

Anyone have a 238 ORB from July 18th to hand ?
