Kirkenes/Petsamo 31/7/41 - German claims
Hi guys
As some of you may not have seen my earlier request for details of German claims during the Kirkenes/Petsamo raids of 31 July 1941, I would appreciate any help as these do not appear in Tony Woods' lists. Bf109s from I/JG77 apparently claimed 13 Albacores, 2 Skuas, 3 Hurricanes and one Russian aircraft. Bf110s from 13(Z)/JG5 apparently claimed 5 Swordfish/Albacores Ju87s from IV/LG1 apparently claimed 5 Swordfish Flak claimed 4/5. Apart from a claim for an Albacore destroyed by Hptm Schlossstein of 13(Z)/JG5, I DO NOT know the identities of any of the other claimants. I am mystified as to why I am unable to find the names of the German pilots, so hopefully one of our experts can help me, please. Also, how many types of each of the defending force participated? Thanks in advance Brian PS: I have now established that Ltn Felix-Maria Brandis of 1(Z)/JG77 claimed two Albacore while flying Bf110 LN+AR with Fw Herbert Baus as his AG. Has anyone a copy of Jochen Prien's JG77 history to establish the identities of the claimants? Cheers Brian Last edited by Brian; 2nd September 2007 at 10:31. |

This was the day, when KFS was shot down. He made the mission report on 31 July 1941, after he was saved and on the Gefechtsstand again. KFS told me the following claims of the 10.(Z)/JG 5 (later named in 13.(Z)/JG 5): Leutnant Karl Koch (1), Leutnant Felix Brandis (2), Leutnant Max Franzisket (1), Oberleutnant Karl-Fritz Schlossstein (1 confirmed, 1 unconfirmed). Best, Horst |

Many thanks, Horst. Yes, 30 July, off course. Apologies for the slip!
That's a great start anyway. I wonder why nothing seems to be available for I/JG77? Cheers Brian |

Quote:
KFS told me the nomination is a bit unlucky, because JG 77 mainly operated on Norways westcoast. The formal nomination was I. Gruppe, 10. Staffel (Z)/JG 77, later 13.(Z)/JG 5. Best, Horst |
