Wolfgang Schenk's Victory dates
Greetings: I am trying to get clarification on the actual date of Schenk's 2 victories prior to being WIA in the French Campaign. Theo Boiten in his "Blenheim Strike" gives him credit for 2 of 600 Sqn.s fighter Blenheims on 10.5.40'but I seem to recall a post sometime ago that put his Victories on 11.5.40.... Any comments? Cheers Dean.

Re: Wolfgang Schenk's Victory dates
Robert: Thank you for your response. Was this the combat in which a Fokker T-V of BomVA was also claimed by ZG-1? Most sources I've checked are consistent that Schenk had 2 claims prior to his being WIA on 16.5.40.Curious if you know anything about his other? This also throws a wrench into what I had for claims by I/ZG-1 against the 600Sqn. Blenheims over Waalhaven on 10.5.40. Any theory on who claimed there besides Knacke,Steib, and Gildner,or are these even correct? Grateful for anything you can offer. Cheers. Dean.

Re: Wolfgang Schenk's Victory dates
Hi Dean,
concerning the 10.05 the Blenheims were downed by: Streib, Gildner, Mueller (2) and Moelller. The 1/ZG1 was not involved in this combat. On the 11.05.40 the 1/ZG1 attacked small Dutch formation consisting from Fokker T-V from the BomVA and its escort from the JAVA 2-2. The bomber was downed by Victor Moelders and the other Dutch fighter by Lt.Gerhard Schmidt. Regards Robert |

Re: Wolfgang Schenk's Victory dates
Robert: Again,Thank you. This Info. is significantly different from what I had been able to find. Still a bit of a mystery with regard to Schenk's second claim, however, he wasn't shot down and WIA until the 16.5.40 so at least 3-4 days this could have occurred. John Vasco's excellent book has his Bf-110 damaged in air combat on the 14.5.40, so some possible leads yet to look into. Great information! 3 years ago it appeared that the well had run dry on Zerstorer Information so very refreshing to see this. Again, Thank you. Cheers. Dean.

Re: Wolfgang Schenk's Victory dates
Dean:
According to Obermaier in "Die Ritterkreuzträger der Luftwaffe" Schenck claimed both his first two victories on 11.05.40. "Am 11.5.1940 erzielte er in Holland seine ersten beiden Luftsiege . . ." Robert: Thanks for the claims info for 10.05.40. Can you further identify "Mueller" and "Moeller"? First names, ranks, Staffel, etc. and were these pilots or gunners? These claims are new to me and I have no information in my data base for these two. Thanks, Tom |

Re: Wolfgang Schenk's Victory dates
Hi Tom,
3/ZG1 Uffz.Rudolf Mueller (claims #1-2), 2/ZG1 Olt.Juergen Moeller (claim #2) - I think there were pilots . Moeller downed his first opponent slightly earlier on this day (between 10-11.00 he badly damaged Fokker No.858 from the BomVA). Regards Robert P.S. Do you have some Zerstoerer claims? Perhaps you can contact me off-board?) |

Re: Wolfgang Schenk's Victory dates
Robert,
Thanks very much for your quick response. All the claims information I have is from published sources or from the internet such as this excellent site, so I doubt very much that I have any claims info of which you are not already aware. Quite the contrary, you probably know more than I do. Tom |

Re: Wolfgang Schenk's Victory dates
Tom and Robert: Thank you for additional comments.I was curious about Mueller's first name as well,as several pilots of that name show up through most sources. Robert, you had mentioned Tonne of II/ZG-1 in an earlier post as having claimed a Douglas fighterbomber 0n 10.5.40. I was wondering if you had any other claimants? I'm thinking Marchfelder,Kutscka, and possibly Hermichen...but I don't have solid proof. Cheers. Dean

Re: Wolfgang Schenk's Victory dates
Quote:
Photo of Schenck's Bf110E-1 S9+AH W.Nr.4024, bellylanded on 9.7.41, shows 6 victory bars, 2 of them - "western" roundels. I beleive that mean he had 2 victories in may 1940. What was the second one?
