Re: Fairey Gannet's Double Mamba

Kerosine is a hydrocarbon fraction that typically distils about 100 C lower than that of Diesel.
The major use for kerosines today is for aviation turbine (jet or turboprop) fuels. Since for jet fuel (such as the civilian Jet A1) and Diesel special properties are required for their application, various additives are added. Jet fuel for example has to meet a high flash point for safe refuelling, low freezing point for high altitude flying, and good water separation characteristics.
If I recall correctly, the main disadvantage of Diesel fuel compared to kerosene is its much higher freezing point of about -20 C vs. – 50 C and lower for Jet A1.
I guess this disadvantage could be met with a heated fuel tank???
