238 Sqn ORB
Hi,
Does anyone have the ORB for 238 Squadron for February 1941? I'm looking for a reference to two pilots who arrived on 19th February from 263 Squadron. They are Lt M Perry and Lt J Garnier, possibly Free French. Any info apreciated. Alex

Re: 238 Sqn ORB
Don't have the ORB, but I think your guy Jacques Garnier is the same as Jean Gabrielli (according to
www.cieldegloire.com). Hope it helps. /John |

Re: 238 Sqn ORB
Hello Alex & Bonjour Bertrand.
It is not Perry or something like that but Maurice Rémy. The 2 Free French Pilots Roger Motte nom de guerre Maurice Rémy and Jean Gabrielli nom de guerre Jean Garnier, (sometimes Garner also) were posted by mistake to the 263 Sqn. by the British coming from 238 Sqn. they didn't have the capacity to pilot a bi-motor as the whirlwind. So they stayed, If I remember well 2 days before to be posted to 32 Sqn. Hope it will be useful

Re: 238 Sqn ORB
Hi,
Thanks for the additional info. The info I have on Jean Garnier is: Escaped from France and commissioned in RAF as a Flying Officer. Posted to 56 OTU on 2nd February 1941. After a quick refresher course on RAF aircraft and procedures he was posted to 263 Squadron on 17th February but two days later he was posted to 238 Squadron. In April Jean was posted to 32 Squadron. Missing from patrol on 11th July. This differs slightly from the website link supplied by Bertrand so I will update my information accordingly. Regards, Alex

Re: 238 Sqn ORB
Hello Alex.
For some infos the nom de guerre of Jean Gabrielli wasn't Jean but Jack Garner or Garnier. These 2 pilots were always together since their departures from 6 OTU. I don't remember who told me, but it seem's when they came to the 238 sqn. they were already 2 Free French Pilots. It is a little confuse.
