Re: KG(J) 51 Me 262 bomber action over Grave airfield, 1st October 1944
Here the results of my research for operations of KG 51 for October 1st, 1944 in the ORBs of the mentioned 2nd TAF units. More units have be checked in 2008. NA is the former PRO.
Jaap 1-10-44 NA Air 25/698. HQ No.83 Group, Exel. Move Main Headquarters to Eindhoven. 1-10-1944 NA Air 27/1934 No.486 (NZ) Sqn. 3 Me 262’s seen dive-bombing Nijmegen. 8-12.000 ft. Chased but impossible to close range. Up 635 Down 0800. 5 Me 262’s seen in pairs and singly. One attempted to attack squadron but was out-turned and lost in the resultant dive. Up 1055 Down 1215. 1-10-1944 NA Air 27/938 No.130 Sqn. Grave. On arrival there, Grave, the airfield was bombed by Me 262’s dropping canister bombs. There were no casualties in the Squadron, but 125 Wing Adjutant was killed and several Wing personnel injured. |
